Website design and construction
For examples of our website designs please study our portfolio and look at the artwork page.
Building a website is a time consuming business. Deciding what you want to see on the screen is merely the starting point; the real work begins when the builder takes that vision and makes it manifest.
In fact, creating an attractive and efficient website is a task which requires two very different types of skill. On the one hand the website designer needs to be of an artistic nature, with the intuitive ability to use colour effectively and to place images and text in an attractive format. On the other hand he - or she - needs to have the sort of mind which can juggle numbers and turn the English language into code. These two different types of mentality are seldom found nesting under the same cranium - which is why at Caesar’s Grunt we share the responsibility between two minds. One of us says “Do it like this” and the other does the actual construction job. It's a job which requires an intimate knowledge not only of the different languages which the computer uses but also of a great many other things, such as the ins and outs of different browsers and operating systems, the secret mind of Google’s search engine, and the relevance of different screen sizes and resolutions. Naturally, it all takes time.
Of course, there are shortcuts.
Many web designers use WYSIWYG software, which makes designing a simple website very easy and relatively quick. But at Caesar’s Grunt we don’t. This is because the websites which these DIY programs produce often don’t work very well, as they tend to be badly coded. Caesar’s Grunt websites are hand-coded to ensure optimum performance and faster loading in all web browsers, on all operating systems, and on all sizes of screen. Hand-coding is likely to improve your site’s search engine ranking. It also enables us to personalise the site to meet your exact needs - and this is another thing that is not really possible unless the designer can write his own code.
At Caesar’s Grunt we understand that you and your company or business are unique and for this reason we do not use templates either; our sites are all custom built from scratch, to unique designs.
If you look at our portfolio you will notice that the websites are all designed to occupy the full width of the computer screen - and they fit it whether you are using a notebook or a big monitor. Many websites do not fill a large screen; they sit on the centre strip and the space on either side is left blank or given a uniform colour or texture.
A centre-strip site is often easier to build than a fullscreen job, because it automatically fits onto most screens. That’s why there are so many of them out there! We personally feel that centre-strip sites lack the aesthetic appeal of fullscreen ones - to us they look like a paste-up job - but if a centre-strip site is what you want, Caesar’s Grunt can design and build it for you. We can build anything!
Before being presented to the customer each site is tested for readability, aesthetic appeal, and ease of use, by our in-house evaluation committee.
Our sites are suitable for vegans. They do not contain milk or egg products, but they can be a bit nutty if that’s the way you’d like it.
Wherever possible our sites comply with the W3C standards. However, to make sure our sites are always accessible to the largest possible audience it is sometimes necessary to deviate from these standards in order to take account of browser incompatibilities. This is because in the early days of the internet, before any standards existed, the two major browsers of the time competed for market dominance by adding non-standard features. As a result of this many browsers, and especially Internet Explorer, still require non-standard code in order to display websites as the designer intended.
We also offer website hosting. By hosting your website ourselves we can ensure that the server is set up to meet the exact requirements of your individual website.
